Outrageous Taxi Stories (PBS/Sundance Channel)
Joe Berlinger's OUTRAGEOUS TAXI STORIES capitalizes on the mystique that for decades has surrounded the New York City cabbie. This unscripted, nonfiction film is a collection of nine true stories revolving around New York City taxicabs. The stories, which range from the ridiculous to the bizarre to the sublime, are told by real people. Each storyteller -- five New York City cab drivers and one passenger -- use their own words to describe the strange cab events that they have witnessed. Each story is punctuated by unusual photographic images -- shot over a two year period by a former cabbie -- which pay homage to the unusual world of the New York City cab driver.
